SummitFlux is thrilled to introduce the Composite Snow Crystal Frost – a specialized tool designed for professionals photographing snow crystals, avalanche educators conducting hands-on sessions, and anyone needing those precious extra seconds to observe snow crystals before they melt.

Tec​hnology 

Like our original Composite Snow Crystal Card, the Frost version is crafted from a black composite material, designed for low thermal conductivity and minimal heat absorption. This composite material offers superior cold retention compared to other common materials like aluminum and plastic by holding cold longer and reducing the spread of radiative heat. The black composite absorbs less warmth overall, especially in sunlight, making it ideal for extended snow crystal observation.


Both cards feature the same durable, abrasion-resistant ink and grid for excellent clarity and longevity, in a compact, ultralight design perfect for field use. The only difference with the Frost version is the addition of a copper grid. This grid has a high thermal mass that holds cold even longer and further restricts heat transfer across the card. Much like rip-stop fabric limits tearing, the copper mesh confines any slight heat spread to the area immediately around your fingers, allowing for extended, precise snow crystal observation without warming the entire surface.


 

Instructions for Use

To maximize the Frost card’s cold retention, let it pre-cool before use. In the field, stick the card into the snow for a few minutes during preparations, like snow pit setup. In lab settings, pre-cooling in a freezer is recommended.
